This time, the NSF’s OIR Lab is seeking a Temporary Safety Coordinator, whom will be responsible for the oversight of the safety, health, and environmental (safety) program for the facilities and operations when assigned, in accordance with organizational policy and governmental requirements. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

Examples of functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

·       Works closely with other organizational safety professionals to develop and manage policies, standards, procedures, and practices for the safety, health, and environment of the facilities and operations where geographically assigned.

·       Is responsible for the implementation of policies, standards, procedures, and practices of the facilities and operations where geographically assigned.

·       Anticipates, identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices.

·       To ensure compliance, provides site and personnel inspections, audits, consultation, written reports assistance with investigations, and analysis of the site of safety management systems; taking action when necessary in accordance with organizational procedures. Examples include but are not limited to reviewing  fall protection equipment and programs, Job Hazard Analysis, electrical safety, fire prevention measures and others as directed.

·       Reviews contractor safety representative inspections, and audits contractor Obligations to Inform (ODI’s).

·       Supervises the maintenance of hazardous materials inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) database. Develops relevant training and compliance program, as to the proper handling, use, storage and transportation of these materials, in order to comply with all laws and regulations.

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management or related field. Must be registered as a Risk Prevention Expert with the Chilean Ministry of Health.

 

Experience: Must have at least two to five years’ experience in occupational safety experience or equivalent. Experience in construction safety and knowledge of observatory facilities infrastructure experience is desired.

 

Skills: English and Spanish both written and spoken is highly desirable as there is a need to translate Normas, OSHA standards, AURA and organizational policies, procedures, and other documents. Must maintain confidential information and records in accordance with regulations, organizational policy, and good judgment. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and articulates objectives.

Experience in implementing or participating in the implementation of a Safety Management System in an international environment organizational highly desirable. Proficient in personal computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and other computer-based programs.
